The Paterson YMCA provides living facilities for men and women from the city of Paterson and the surrounding area. Located in downtown Paterson, the Paterson YMCA currently operates as an SRO facility through the HUD Section 8 and Shelter Plus Care housing programs. The Paterson YMCA has made 200 rooms available through these two federally funded programs. Of these 200 rooms, 23 have been set aside for women residents.

A prospective applicant must meet one or more of the following requirements:

Employment:
a picture of 1040 tax form for income verification.

  • Proof of homelessness
  • Application must show proof that 30% of income is going towards rent

HUD Shelter Plus Care Program:

  • Proof of homelessness
  • Proof of income
  • A disability
Services Provided to Residents:

  • Community referral and support services
  • In-house case management services
  • Referral of senior citizens to senior homes
  • Emergency shelter for Passaic County Human Resources
  • Job Placement Training
  • Drug programs for St. Joseph's, Barnert Memorial and St. Mary's hospitals
  • Women's support group (every Wed)
  • Legal Aid services (Paterson Legal Aid Counsel Program)

  • In-house case management services
  • Passaic County Welfare
  • Hispanic Multipurpose Service Center
  • Hyacinth AIDS Foundation
  • Blood pressure tests/all medical screenings

Other Programs and Services:

Men of the Circle - a support group for male Paterson YMCA residents. This support group meets on Mondays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. The purpose of this support group is to provide support to men having difficulties with daily functioning (i.e.: work, school, activities, problem solving, substance abuse and daily living).

Activities such as table games, trips and movies are scheduled on the first and third days of each month. On months that contain a fifth week, a guest speaker is brought in to speak to residents.
